Michaelmas Cay is a picturesque reef 24 nautical miles Northeast of Cairns and is surrounded by coral gardens that teem with an incredible diversity of marine life. The Cay is a protected sanctuary for more than 20,000 migratory seabirds making it one of the most important in the Southern Hemisphere. Much of the diving activity on the 7-mile cay takes place at the Southern tip amongst the large isolated bommies. There are always myriad fish densely packed around the various dive sites. During the summer months, Green Sea and Loggerhead Turtles use the cay as a breeding site and divers can swim with these creatures on most dives. |
